On our projected timeline we expect to begin programming, outreach, and fundraising activities in April 2010 or sooner.
We join the many who
are already working to creative ways to challenge injustice in our world. The questions
we seek to answer are:
1. How do we take social justice education out of the
academic format and integrate it into people's lives?
2. How do we empower people to become activists and
support the growth of those already activists?
Our approach is broad and holistic. We believe in a multi-directional approach addressing issues on the individual/internal levels, interpersonal/community levels, and the systemic/institutional levels. We begin with ourselves at the center of change, focusing on individual physical health, emotional and spiritual growth, education, and the warrior spirit which must be present to have courage to stand against injustice when it is the unpopular decision and you are outnumbered. Then building community, sharing skills and resources, and developing our understanding of one another so that we may stand together against injustice. As these two foundations are strengthened, the impact we have collectively is much greater and can generate the power necessary to reshape hardened systems and replace old institutions.
Although our roots are grounded in the martial arts spirit, we expect to explore many new directions as we continue to seek answers and new solutions to the growing challenges in our communities, our country, and our world.
