PROGRESSIVE MARTIAL ARTS
HISTORY
Come celebrate with us!
November 2009 is the 10 year
anniversary of Progressive Martial
Arts!
Progressive Martial Arts was
established in 1999 and
became a program of the
nonprofit organization, "Fight
and Build, Inc." in 2009. PMA
began as a Mission YMCA youth
LGBTQ and straight ally martial
arts club. Providing low-income
individuals access to quality
martial arts training has always
been a priority. Over the years
classes were held in church
basements, schools, SOMA
Recreation Center, Femina Potens
Gallery, Master Lundbom's home,
parks, and even our own grant
funded facility.
Currently, Progressive Martial Arts shares space in the beautiful Hwa Rang Kwan Martial Arts Center through a generous agreement with Master Steve Rapport. This allows Progressive Martial Arts to offer financial assistance to low income individuals. Hwa Rang Kwan's taekwondo students are always welcome to join our classes. Guest black belts from other schools and clubs are also welcome to drop-in and train with us.
The curriculum has continued to evolve and become more effective over the years. Exciting plans are in the works for the future of Progressive Martial Arts, but one thing won't change: commitment to the warrior spirit and the thousand pushup black belt test!
